Intervista (in Inglese) alla band Francese (Lille) dei Bare Teeth che saranno in Tour in Italia per due date in occasione del loro nuovo Ep dal titolo First the town, then the world.
Hi guys welcome on MusicOnlineZine.
First of all:
01. Why Bare Teeth?
We thought the world needed another punk/rock band that focuses on energy, melodies without forgetting some thicker part and shouted vocals. Some say there are enough bands like these, but we spent a lot of time writing songs and songs are meant to be heard.
Oh, wait … you meant « Why the name « Bare Teeth » ? ». Well, it’s pretty straightforward, sounds a bit aggressive and shows our motivation, haha !!
02. What about your songs? Does the song come first, or the lyrics?
Most of the time, we write the music before the lyrics. One of us comes with an almost-finished song, then we jam at it, make some changes or improvements. Once the music is done, we write the lyrics. I wrote most of them, but Titouan and Tom have some more in their buckets.
03. Who is the band's mind?
Please, don’t call me « mind ». You can call me « Greg », or « Papa » but that’s mostly for my bandmates. I think they call me « Dictator » or « Führer » in secret, but I love them anyway.
More seriously, I’m way older than my bandmates and I have a good experience in music, touring and stuff like this, so it’s easier for me when it comes to put things together or book tours.
04. Are you happy with your EP? or would you have liked to change something?
We are quite happy with it. It’s been released in a dozen of countries, on some great labels (No Reason, Lockjaw, Morning Wood, Melodic Punk Style, …), we already toured in several European countries and we’ve made fans from all around the world.
There are always improvements to be done, especially when you listen to the same record more than 100 times, but a record is about setting things into stone at a moment. So, no, I wouldn’t change a single things … and we will make some improvements live.
05. What about the lyrics? love, politic, war, or.... !!
Most of my lyrics are about my experience in bands or in life. Some of them deals with achievement and working yourself out to make your dreams come true. Some others are about darker stuff, like suicide or depression … of course, it’s not about myself but about some people I know.
Some songs aren’t really about politics but they can political, like « These towns need guns » that is about firearms.
06. Why did you go for an Acoustic Video? it might sound strange for a Punk Rock band.
One thing is sure between Bare Teeth’s members : we don’t want to be another punk/rock band that doesn’t bring anything new. We all love the acoustic vibe and we had the opportunity to make a music video for the acoustic version of « Behind the wall », so we gave it a go.
In my opinion, punk/rock band would better make some strange things and stop trying to sound like another punk/rock band, haha !
07. Three musician like Line Up, which kind of instrument would you liked introduce in your band if you need in the future?
Oh please, we are 4 musicians. Our drummer, Jay, is a musician too. Leave Jay alone, he is a human being !!!
We don’t think adding any other instruments to the band. However, it could be fun to work with some other bands or artists that play a different style of music, like rocksteady or hiphop. One thing for sure, we will never add keyboards … we don’t want to sound like a cold-wave band.
08. We're at the end of the interview: Greet our readers as you want :)
We will soon tour in Italy. Please, come to our shows, have some beers and fun with us. PARTYTIME !!!
